On the heels of last week’s news of a new collective bargaining agreement between the NWSL Players Association and the league, which secured free agency for all players — as well as eliminating the draft, ending trades without player consent, added revenue sharing and more — the players association on Monday provided the initial list of players who will soon be eligible for free agency.
There are big names in the list, including Angel City FC forward Christen Press, who just returned to the field for regular season action following her lengthy rehab back from her ACL injury, Chicago Red Stars goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher, hero of the USWNT during the Olympics, North Carolina Courage forward Kerolin, last year’s MVP, and Orlando Pride forward and women’s soccer legend Marta. The initial list is 88 players — though the final number may change in the coming days.
