The NWSL unveiled its redesigned championship and MVP trophies Tuesday in a first-ever collaboration with luxury brand Tiffany & Co. Here’s what you need to know:

  • This marks the first redesign of the championship trophy since league play began in 2013. It features a soccer ball whose panels form the NWSL shield atop “a sleek base with a stylized air current-shaped motif designed to evoke a ball in motion, while 24K gold vermeil and sterling silver accentuate the frame.”
  • The NWSL joins a long list of professional sports leagues that have trophies designed by Tiffany & Co., including the NFL, MLB and NBA.
  • The championship trophy will make its debut after the 2023 NWSL title game on Nov. 11 at Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego. The playoffs begin with quarterfinal matchups on Oct. 20 and 22.

A long-awaited improvement

The NWSL finally has some new, grown-up trophies for the championship and the regular-season MVP. It’s a long-awaited improvement (though understandable in many ways how it wasn’t exactly at the top of the priority list over the past few years), and as much as I find this a welcome change, it’s worth eulogizing the league’s previous trophy.
