NWSL players embrace joys, challenges of motherhood – Equalizer Soccer

“Are we tired? It’s okay, just breathe…” thought Washington Spirit defender Casey Krueger as she wrapped up a training session with her teammates. Now in mom mode, she held her almost two-year old son Caleb on her lap.

“There’s no feeling like seeing him after a game or practice,” Krueger told The Equalizer. “It doesn’t matter if it was a good day or a bad day — it’s just the instant I see him, he’s my world and makes things better. It’s been the coolest thing to have him along the journey and I’m really thankful to have such a supportive organization with the Spirit.”

Despite the rapidly-shattering stereotypes that women must choose between having a family or a career, moms in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) are prime examples of pursuing both avenues.
