NWSL PA calls for change following Savy King health scare – Equalizer Soccer

The NWSL Players Association believes last Friday’s Angel City FC/Utah Royals FC match should have been discontinued after Angel City’s Savy King was taken off the field and to a local hospital with what at the time was an uncertain diagnosis. The club released a statement late Tuesday saying King had undergone surgery for a heart abnormality and that her prognosis is excellent.

A day later, the PA sent a statement which said, in part:  “These moments demand humanity, sound judgment, and restraint. Any medical emergency that requires the administration of life-saving care should bring play to an end. The match should not have continued.”

The release also praised the “swift, professional response from the medical staff, emergency personnel, and others on site who ensured Savy’s safety on Friday night.”

An NWSL spokesperson issued the following statement to The Equalizer:
