NWSL Regular Season Wrap

How was your Sunday? Relaxing? Were you able to step away from a screen? If you experienced the NWSL’s inaugural Decision Day bedlam, the answer is probably no. Six simultaneous games to determine the final four playoff spots was always going to be mayhem, but we got that and so much more.

  • On Sunday morning, the Portland Thorns were in pole position to earn the Shield, the Washington Spirit had a playoff spot in its hands and Angel City was on the outside looking. By Sunday night San Diego Wave captured a (unique) Shield instead, the North Carolina Courage knocked the Spirit out of the postseason in a game that included Trinity Rodman getting sent off with a red card while Angel City made club history by grabbing its first playoff berth.
  • The day also included: 17 goals, breathtaking defensive performances (for us and the players sprinting back for goal-line clearances), and VAR.
