NJ/NY Gotham FC dipped into the free agency market yet again on Tuesday, signing U.S. women’s national team defender Tierna Davidson to a three year contract.
The Women’s World Cup winner joins the club as they attempt an ambitious rebuild after lifting their first NWSL championship in November, and seems like the natural successor on the field to Ali Krieger after the veteran retired at the end of the 2023 season. Davidson’s signing comes two days after fellow World Cup winner Crystal Dunn became Gotham’s first free agent acquisition this offseason, with the New York native inking a three-year deal with the club. The team that seems to be embracing their newfound status as one of the league’s elite sides — Gotham are also reportedly set to bring in fellow USWNT World Cup winners Rose Lavelle, Tierna Davidson, and Emily Sonnett.
