The NWSL issued a fine to Angel City FC president Julie Uhrman for “approaching the officials” at the end of the team’s May 13 match against the Washington Spirit, the league announced Wednesday. Here’s what you need to know:
- Uhrman approached officials following Angel City’s 1-0 loss to the Spirit after Washington scored a penalty kick in stoppage time following a call confirmed via VAR.
- The NWSL has not allowed coaches, assistants or other team personnel to enter the field to approach game officials since at least 2014, with that version of the rules stating the aforementioned team personnel may not approach officials “before, during, at halftime or at the conclusion of any NWSL game,” and, “similarly, team personnel will not confront game officials in the locker room, corridor, parking lots or any area surrounding the game officials’ locker room.”
- Uhrman isn’t the first club president to receive a fine for the violation. Last year, the league fined to San Diego Wave coach Casey Stoney and president Jill Ellis for approaching officials during their team’s matches on June 8 and June 12.
