NWSL 2025: Gotham FC manages to retain USWNT’s Midge Purce, restoring stability amid recent exits

If you were ever concerned about the National Women’s Soccer League given an abundance of departures, keep in mind the wealth of talent that remains. Midge Purce, one of the world’s most electrifying attacking talents when healthy, is one of those sticking around, at least for now.

Purce, who emphatically claimed the 2023 NWSL Championship Most Valuable Player award, agreed to a one-year pact to remain with NJ/NY Gotham FC, the club announced Wednesday. The U.S. Women’s National Team forward renews her contract with the club following a season that ended prematurely when Purce tore her anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) during the season opener against Portland Thorns FC.

She has linked back up with her teammates in Spain — the site of Gotham’s preseason training camp.

The NJ/NY outfit has undergone a drastically different offseason from last year. Key assets, particularly up front, have found new homes.
