Novak Djokovic’s PTPA seems to be of the opinion that players should be allowed to share their honest thoughts before tennis officials make any deals with Saudi Arabia. Next month, Saudi Arabia will officially enter the tennis market when Jeddah hosts the Next Gen ATP Finals.
Last week, Italian Tennis Federation President Angelo Binaghi claimed Saudi Arabia would have a Masters 1000 tournament in 2025. Earlier this year, there were also rumors of the WTA Finals being staged in Saudi Arabia. Ultimately, the WTA picked Cancun as the host city.
However, various reports indicate that the WTA is still seriously considering hosting the WTA Finals in Saudi Arabia in the near future. While some players such as Aryna Sabalenka, Iga Swiatek and Ons Jabeur have publicly revealed they would be open to playing in Saudi Arabia, there are also those who are opposed to playing in Saudi Arabia.
Most notably, world No 17 Daria Kasatkina – who came out as gay last year – urged the WTA not to make any deals with Saudi Arabia.
