Cori Gauff, 18, admits she is in a bit of a weird situation as she doesn’t feel like a new kid but also not like a veteran. Gauff, who will be turning 19 in March, is not a regular 18-year-old on the Tour as she has been playing at the highest level since the age of 15.
During the 2019 Wimbledon, Gauff made the round-of-16 at The Championships as a 15-year-old qualifier. Last year, Gauff made her first Grand Slam final at the French Open and also achieved a career-high ranking of No 4 in the world.
Even though Gauff is just 18, she has entered her fifth year of playing on the highest level.

“I don’t think I feel like quite a vet, but I don’t feel like I’m the new kid.
I feel like I’m in the middle of the pack. It’s kind of weird. Like, compared to other players, I mean, obviously I still have a lot less years than them. But there’s some, like I was joking about this last night. I did mini golfing with Ben Shelton and Chris Eubanks.
This is his first time out of the country. He played main draw US Open, but first time out of the country. I was just saying like, I’m a vet compared to you, even though he’s older than me. I think I’ve been on tour four years now,” Gauff explained, per Sportskeeda.
Meanwhile, Gauff…
