CARY, N.C. — The North Carolina Courage are one of the most successful clubs in the National Women’s Soccer League, having won at least one competitive trophy in five of the last seven years.
Those achievements, which include back-to-back NWSL Challenge Cup titles, made their Concacaf W Champions Cup snub even more surprising when the three NWSL entrants were announced last month.
“I’m disappointed for the players,” North Carolina head coach Sean Nahas said during a press conference last month when asked about it. “They deserve it. My personal opinion, you diminish the value of a trophy. No other league in the world does that.”
