North Carolina claims 2 ultimate dynasties in this club sport

Put yourself in those shoes you wore in college. And remember walking around campus, shuffling from building to building, going from class to class — anytime the day’s jaunt passed by an open patch of grass, you wouldn’t at all be stunned to see it: a Frisbee flying. You either partook, or saw others flinging their wrists in the sunshine and sprinting after the disc as it spun its way back down to earth.

The Frisbee has been a staple of the American college campus lifestyle going back as far as the 1970s. One campus in particular in recent years has seen the sport of ultimate Frisbee be taken to continuous new heights. At a university known for its legendary women’s soccer program and its 22 national titles and for producing Michael Jordan, the University of North Carolina is currently the host of not one but two active and healthy ultimate Frisbee dynasties.

Club sports at UNC, Darkside (the men) and Pleiades (the women) have each won three consecutive national titles. And the rest of the sport’s collegiate universe doesn’t seem close to closing the gap anytime soon. Pleiades, for…
