No. 3 Texas rallies to defeat No. 5 LSU: How Longhorns pushed winning streak to 10 games

In their first season in the SEC, the Texas Longhorns have figured out the lay of the land.

No. 3 Texas entered its top-five showdown against No. 5 LSU as winners of nine in a row, which included breaking South Carolina’s 57-game SEC win streak last week. Despite trailing by 12 in the second half against the Tigers, the Longhorns extended their own winning streak to ten, prevailing 65-58 to earn their fifth win over a top-ten team this season.

Texas put together a powerful closing stretch, outscoring LSU 21-9 in the fourth quarter. The defense was suffocating, limiting the Tigers to 3-of-16 shooting while forcing six turnovers. Kim Mulkey tried to get more defensive lineups on the court, playing Sa’Myah Smith and Last-Tear Poa for the entire period. However, neither of them even attempted a field goal in the fourth as the Longhorns locked in on LSU’s big three of Flau’jae Johnson, Mikaylah Williams and Aneesah Morrow.

The defense didn’t come to fruition either. Smith was unable to keep Kyla Oldacre off the glass and with the Tigers trailing by three, Harmon beat Poa to her spot in the midrange and sank a jumper twice in the final three…
