Nick Taylor claims dramatic Sony Open playoff win, 5th PGA Tour victory

Nick Taylor’s tendency to play his best golf in the biggest moments is no longer a pattern — it’s a trend. The Canadian won his fifth PGA Tour event Sunday at the Sony Open and secured his third consecutive playoff victory. A chip-in eagle on the final hole of regulation play gave him the chance to sniff the trophy. Then he went out and grabbed it.

“I feel like I can rise to the occasion,” Taylor said after the conclusion of the dramatic finish in Honolulu. “It’s pretty fun.”

Taylor won over 30-year-old Nico Echavarria, after the Colombian three-putt on the second sudden-death hole.

The first-place position is Taylor’s first individual top-10 finish on the PGA Tour since his previous victory — at the WM Phoenix Open last February. Taylor struggled to follow up on his only win in 2024, stumbling through the conclusion of the season. A cold putter led to eight missed cuts and Taylor being left off the International Presidents Cup team while the biennial event was hosted in his home country.
