Nick Kyrgios seemingly took a sarcastic shot at the rumors of a possible ATP and WTA merger after Iga Swiatek pleaded to Mexican fans to come to watch the WTA Finals in Cancun. After claiming a 7-6 (3) 6-0 win over Marketa Vondrousova in her WTA Finals opener, four-time Grand Slam champion Swiatek shared that she wasn’t really satisfied with the number of people in the stands.

In September, The Telegraph reported that the ATP and WTA would meet later that month in London to discuss a potential merger. “I hope for the next matches we can make the stadium full, because there are many empty seats. Guys, please come and watch our game.

We are giving 100% in every match,” Swiatek said at the WTA Finals, via Relevant Tennis. Kyrgios responded to Swiatek’s comments by cryptically writing: “Merger.”
