Newcastle Women have become a full-time professional club after their promotion to the third-tier FA Women’s National League Northern Premier Division.
They will become the first club in Women’s National League history to take this step.
Becky Langley’s side were promoted on goal difference after beating Barnsley 2-0 in the final game of the season.
They will continue to play home matches at Kingston Park, but they played twice at St James’ Park last season, following an inaugural match against Alnwick Town in May 2022 that was watched by 22,134 fans.
“This is a monumental moment for Newcastle United Women and the FA Women’s National League,” Langley said.
“We hope to be a leading light in the movement towards professionalism in the women’s game and inspire women and girls who dream of pursuing a career in football.
“We have worked incredibly hard to get here and I’m so excited to work with the players as we help them to be the best athletes they can be.”
Newcastle Women only came under the ownership of Newcastle United Football Club at the start of last season.
They had previously operated independently from the team under the ownership of Mike Ashley, and had been run largely through the club’s foundation in recent years.
