New York Liberty sign new broadcast deal, will televise games for free with WNYW

Date:

The New York Liberty have a new local television partner and it’s going to make their games free to watch this upcoming season.

The franchise signed a deal with WNYW FOX5 to broadcast its games over the air locally for the 2024 season. The YES Network, a cable regional sports network, had televised Liberty games over the last few years, but this new rights deal will have its local broadcasts split between FOX5 and its sister station My9 in the New York City television market. The team said the channels reach 7.5 million households across New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Connecticut. They will also stream on the Fox Local App.

The Liberty will open their season May 14 against the Washington Mystics and that game will be broadcast locally as part of this new contract. The Liberty are coming off a WNBA Finals appearance and are a favorite to get there again this season.

“Expanding our local reach and ensuring we are widely accessible wherever fans watch Liberty games is imperative in today’s ever-expanding media landscape,” Liberty CEO Keia Clarke said.
