Nelly Korda bitten by dog, withdraws from event in England

World No. 1 golfer Nelly Korda has pulled out of a Ladies European Tour event in England next week after a dog bit her, she announced in a statement on Instagram on Friday.

Korda, 25, was scheduled to play in an LET Aramco Team Series tournament Wednesday through Friday at Centurion Club in Hemel Hempstead, England. Last year, she won the 54-hole tournament outside London by 4 strokes over Charley Hull for her third career LET victory.

“I regret to announce that I must withdraw from next week’s Ladies European Tour tournament in London,” Korda said in the statement. “On Saturday in Seattle, I was bitten by a dog and need time to receive treatment and recover fully.”

Korda didn’t say where the dog bite is. She was competing in last week’s KPMG Women’s PGA Championship at Sahalee Country Club in Sammamish, Washington, in which she missed the cut for the third time in as many starts.

“I apologize to the LET, the sponsors, and my fans for my absence,” Korda said. “Thank you for your understanding, and I look forward to returning to the course soon.”
