LINCOLN, Neb. — Four-time national champion coach John Cook announced his retirement Wednesday as coach of the Nebraska women’s volleyball team after a 25-year run. Dani Busboom Kelly, the head coach at Louisville for the past eight years, will take over as Nebraska’s new coach, the program announced.
Cook, 68, took the Huskers to the Final Four 12 times and finished four times as NCAA runner-up in addition to winning titles in 2000, 2006, 2015 and 2017. He coached three members of the 2020 Olympic gold-medal-winning U.S. squad and helped Nebraska leap over previously uncleared hurdles in women’s athletics.
Busboom Kelly, 39, is a Nebraska native, former player and assistant coach under Cook. She was the 2021 AVCA national coach of the year and directed the Cardinals to the national championship match last month.
