On Saturday, we got an upset in women’s college basketball with No. 6 Notre Dame beating No. 3 USC on the road, 74-61.
It was a star-studded, sold-out game with celebrities like Snoop Dogg and Michael B. Jordan in attendance. Basketball royalty, including former and current Los Angeles Sparks Candace Parker and Cameron Brink, pulled up to watch these two titans square off. The game did not disappoint, with each team’s stars shining in Southern California, even on an uncharacteristically gloomy day in Los Angeles.
For the victorious Irish, Hannah Hidalgo ended the game with 24 points, eight rebounds, six assists and five steals. Olivia Miles had 20 points, eight rebounds and seven assists in the win. On the Trojans’ side, JuJu Watkins did what she does and led the team in points, rebounds and assists, concluding the game with a 24-point, six-rebound and five-assist performance. Unfortunately, her teammates left her on an island, with zero points from the bench. And even though Kiki Iriafen and Talia von Oelhoffen were both in double figures, they struggled shooting the ball, going a combined 9-for-25 from the field.
Now, the Fighting Irish are 5-0 with an impressive win on the road in hand, and the 4-1 Trojans will have to wonder just how far they will drop in the AP…
