In a night filled with enough black and yellow dominance to make Wiz Khalifa proud, the No. 4 Iowa Hawkeyes handily defeated the Cleveland State Vikings 104-75 in the HyVee Showcase at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. The men’s team preceded them with a dominating victory of their own over FAMU, 88-52.
“It was just a great atmosphere,” said head coach Lisa Bluder. “It felt a little bit like a tournament atmosphere again. It was electric and I think a lot of these people haven’t been able to see us play live and so it was an opportunity for them to do so. I thought we did a nice job putting on a good show.”
Of course, it wouldn’t have been so dominant if not for the Des Moines native, Caitlin Clark.
She went on a tear before her hometown crowd, finishing with 38 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists. In the process, she also finished with a career-high nine 3-pointers. She was feeling it! So much so that there were times when she would chuck it from 3 and run back to the other end of the court, anticipating that it was going in. After the game, Clark shared:
My shot felt good. Anytime you play a zone defense, which we don’t hardly ever see, you should be able to get good looks from 3 and I thought we did a really good job of getting the ball into the high…
