If you’ve ever heard the legendary Bill Walton on Pac-12 basketball broadcasts, you’ve heard him tout the league as “the conference of champions.”
Well, the Pac-12 has one more chance to win a championship in volleyball, because after the 2023-24 season the conference will be no more.
Certainly the implications are huge for football and basketball, but in volleyball, Washington and Oregon joining the Big Ten is simply seismic.
“It’s gonna make for a heck of a league super conference,” Nebraska coach John Cook said.
For that matter, Arizona, Arizona State and Utah going to the Big 12 is right up there as the Pac-12 imploded this week.
It started with Colorado.
After months of speculation, Colorado left the Pac-12 for its old league, the Big 12, on July 27. The momentum for more moves increased as Big Ten presidents approved commissioner Tony Petitti to engage with the two schools in the Pacific Northwest on Thursday.
