The stakes are rising at the 2025 Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City.
UCLA and Tennessee went to extra innings Sunday, but it was the Lady Volunteers who got it done in the ninth. Laura Mealer hit a a walk-off single to eliminate the Bruins and advance to the semifinals with a 5-4 win. It’s the Lady Vols’ second WCWS semifinal appearance in the past three seasons. They’ll now face Texas at noon ET on Monday.
Texas finally broke through against rival Oklahoma to advance to the semifinals with a 4-2 victory Saturday. Since 2022, the Longhorns had been 0-5 in the WCWS against Oklahoma compared to 8-0 against all other opponents. Texas Tech, playing in its first WCWS, booked its semifinal ticket after beating UCLA on Saturday.
And rounding out the four semifinal teams is none other than Oklahoma, which beat Oregon 4-1 on Sunday and will face Texas Tech at 7 p.m. ET on Monday.
When the 64-team field was set, the SEC had nine regional hosts and 14 teams, the most for a single conference in tournament history. The ACC had a conference-record nine teams in the field and three hosts.
In Oklahoma City, the conference breakdown was five SEC schools (Oklahoma, Florida, Texas, Tennessee and Ole Miss), two from the Big Ten (UCLA and Oregon) and one from the Big 12 (Texas Tech).
