The 2023 NCAA gymnastics championships kick off Thursday with dual semifinal sessions, and there’s a lot riding on who will advance. The board has been going down to the wire, scores only off by less than three hundredths of a point — 0.025 to be exact.
Oklahoma, the reigning national champions, are in the second session and will be facing Kentucky, Utah and UCLA. The Sooners technically tied with Utah at regionals, but both won their respective sites and ended with 198.050, just below California, which topped all scores from the Pittsburgh region with 198.075.
There will be eight teams, four in each bracket, competing in Fort Worth on the first day, with the two top from each semifinal advancing to Saturday’s final. There are also almost two dozen individuals from other schools that didn’t advance their whole team to the semis. Those individual competitors will vie for honors on each event and the all-around competition.Â
