Mystics’ Brittney Sykes (foot) likely out for ‘immediate future’

Date:

Washington Mystics guard Brittney Sykes will sit out Friday against the Chicago Sky and “probably the immediate future” because of a left foot injury, head coach Eric Thibault said.

The injury, which Sykes suffered in Tuesday’s win over the Atlanta Dream, is different from the left ankle injury that forced Sykes to miss 10 games this season, Thibault said. Although it is more serious than the team originally thought, Thibault said the injury is not expected to keep Sykes out long term.

Sykes appeared to tweak her left foot early in the fourth quarter Tuesday after an awkward step. Afterward, she was seen going down a hallway on crutches, but the Mystics said they were precautionary.

Despite playing just 14 minutes, Sykes scored 18 points to help lead the Mystics over the Dream, 87-68, for their first win of the season.

An eight-year veteran, Sykes, 30, is averaging 11.3 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game this season.
