Karolina Muchova will delay the start of her 2024 tennis season and skip the Australian Open due to a persistent wrist injury that also prevented her from playing the WTA Finals in October.
The world No.8 Muchova reached her first Grand Slam final at the French Open this year, and advanced to the semifinals of the US Open, where she sustained the wrist injury. The Czech managed to qualify for the WTA Finals for the first time in her career, but had to forfeit her debut at the prestigious tournament due to the injury which now regrettably sidelines her from participating in the upcoming Australian Open as well.
“This isn’t my favourite thing to share especially at the start of a new season, but unfortunately the pain in a wrist came back in the middle of my tennis preparation,” the 2021 Australian Open semifinalist Muchova wrote on Instagram on Thursday.
“I therefore have to postpone the start of the season and fully heal my wrist first. It’s frustrating but I have to keep positive, recover and get ready for the rest of the year.”
Muchova was among players presenting the 2024 Adidas Melbourne collection, but unfortunately she won’t debut it in Australia.
