Montreal Victoire trade Anna Kjellbin to Toronto Sceptres for Kaitlin Willoughby

The Toronto Sceptres have acquired defender Anna Kjellbin from the Montreal Victoire in exchange for forward Kaitlin Willoughby on a quiet PWHL trade deadline day.

The deal is a swap of positional depth players who have played minimal roles on their respective teams. Kjellbin, who was selected in the sixth round at the 2024 Draft, played 18 games for Montreal this season and has seen her minutes drop in recent weeks. Willoughby has largely played as a fourth-liner or extra forward for the Sceptres, averaging less than four minutes per game.

Kjellbin, 30, is a veteran two-way defender and long-time member of the Swedish women’s national team. She had been a staple on winning teams in the SDHL, but struggled to find a place at the top of Montreal’s lineup. In Toronto, she could add depth to a blue line that has lost two defenders (Olivia Knowles and Lauren Bernard) off their three-player reserve list this season.

“Kaitlin’s arrival allows us to add even more depth to our squad,” said Montreal general manager Danièle Sauvageau. “Both teams are visibly happy with these additions, which answered both of our needs.”
