Elena Vesnina, the former doubles world No.1, is preparing for yet another return to tennis. Having welcomed her second child, daughter Anna, just seven months ago, the 37-year-old athlete announced her intention to make a comeback in 2024.
“Hello 2024, are you ready for my comeback? Lets do it. See you guys next year on the court,” Vesnina captioned her Instagram post that shows her practice sessions and workouts in Alo Yoga apparel.
Renowned for her prowess in doubles, Vesnina, once ranked among the Top 15 in singles, boasts an impressive resume in the current tennis landscape. Her achievements include clinching four Grand Slam doubles titles, with three of them achieved alongside Ekaterina Makarova between 2013 and 2017, and the mixed doubles title at the 2016 Australian Open partnered with Bruno Soares.
Vesnina and Makarova, who also secured the gold medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics, held the joint No.1 ranking in doubles for a total of five weeks in July 2018. Following the birth of her first daughter, Elizaveta, in November 2018, Vesnina took a hiatus for two years after an illustrious career, claiming 19 doubles titles and three singles titles, including an impressive victory at the 2017 BNP Paribas Open that propelled her to a career-high world No.13 singles ranking.
