Two new champions were crowned at UFC 283 on Saturday. One of them earned a place in the ESPN pound-for-pound rankings. But it was a different winner from last weekend who made the biggest move.
Jessica Andrade, who smashed fellow ranked flyweight Lauren Murphy on Saturday for her third straight victory, climbed into the women’s top five. A former strawweight champion who has also challenged for the 125-pound belt, Andrade has fought 15 times since 2015 and has lost only to champs — Valentina Shevchenko, Rose Namajunas, Zhang Weili and Joanna Jedrzejczyk.
The new champ who moved into the rankings is Brandon Moreno, who regained the men’s flyweight title with a third-round TKO of Deiveson Figueiredo. Moreno previously was in the pound-for-pound top 10 during his reign as champ.
