Brandon Moreno has been at the top of the heap among flyweights before. Over the last two years or so, he and Deiveson Figueiredo have traded places in the rankings more than once as the UFC men’s 125-pound title moved back and forth between them.
Last Saturday at UFC 283, Moreno defeated Figueiredo in their historic fourth meeting — completing the sport’s first tetralogy — to reclaim the flyweight belt. With that win, Moreno also secured the top spot in the latest ESPN divisional rankings.
The rankings saw an even more dramatic rise by the other title fight winner at UFC 283. Jamahal Hill, after defeating Glover Teixeira to earn the light heavyweight title, moves up from near the bottom of the top 10 all the way to No. 2 among 205-pounders.
