Satou Sabally made quite the first impression.
The former Oregon superstar and newest member of the Phoenix Mercury shone brightly in her season debut as her new team put up a resounding win Saturday night over the Seattle Storm.
Sabally had a dominant 27 points to lead the way.
Afterward, she spoke about what this opportunity means to her, and she shouted out Mercury legend Brittney Griner (now in Atlanta):
“It’s an honor,” Sabally said, via the Mercury X account. “BG called me before the game and just said to tell everyone hi, and that meant a lot for me. I didn’t want to disappoint legendary organization and legendary players, DT (Diana Taurasi) too. So just stepping into their footsteps with a new team. Anything is possible.”

Sabally, 27, was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2020 WNBA Draft.
She spent the first five years of her career with the Dallas Wings.
The past two seasons have been her best. Across 2023 and 2024, Sabally averaged 18.4 points, 7.6 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 1.6 steals per game.
Now in a new home, she’s hoping to write her own name in Mercury history. Sabally certainly is off to a good start.
