As we’re approaching the season’s first Grand Slam, Adidas is releasing a variety of new items that Garbine Muguruza, Maria Sakkari and other players sponsored by the three-stripe brand will sport on the blue courts of Melbourne this January.
At first glance we can notice playful patterns paired with a generous use of mesh fabrics. The above image shows two-time major champion Garbine Muguruza in the black version of the Adidas Women’s Melbourne Tennis Dress. It is a three-in-one item that combines a printed sports bra and tight with an engineered mesh shell.

The products are made with yarn that includes captured industrial emissions. Here’s how Adidas explains the innovative technological process:
For this product we turned to a greenhouse gas technology. It uses captured industrial emissions as a new material feedstock. CO2 is fermented into ethanol which constitutes 30% by weight of a polyester yarn. We knitted this yarn into various products and now this carbon-based ethanol makes up a minimum of 15% by weight of this garment. With the help of innovation, we are seeing possibilities in turning towards new resources.
