Megan Rapinoe re-signs with OL Reign for 2023 season – JWS

Megan Rapinoe will stay in Seattle for the 2023 NWSL season.

The 37-year-old forward re-signed with OL Reign on a one-year deal, the club announced Wednesday. The signing comes exactly 10 years after she first was allocated to the team ahead of the inaugural NWSL season in 2013.

“I’m back, Seattle!” Rapinoe said in a news release. “This club means the world to me, and I’m fully committed to helping this team to the best of my ability.”

Rapinoe will aim to lead OL Reign to a second consecutive NWSL Shield while also looking to help the U.S. women’s national team to a third consecutive World Cup title.

In 2022, she contributed seven goals and four assists for OL Reign, tied for the most on the team in both categories. She appeared in 14 games, including her 100th regular-season match to close out the regular season.

Just 10 players appeared in every one of the NWSL’s first 10 seasons, and Rapinoe is one of them. Just five of those players have appeared for the same team every season, and that number includes Rapinoe as well as her teammates Lauren Barnes and Jess Fishlock.
