Megan Rapinoe announces retirement from pro, international soccer after 2023 season – Equalizer Soccer

Megan Rapinoe is getting ready to hang up her soccer boots. The veteran striker and two-time U.S. women’s national team World Cup winner has announced that she will retire from professional and international soccer at the conclusion of the 2023 season.

Rapinoe broke the news during MD-1 media availability in San Jose, California, ahead of the U.S. send off match against Wales, which will be played on July 9. The 38-year-old is currently with the U.S. team as they prepare for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

“I’ve been able to have such an incredible career, and this game has brought me all over the world and allowed me to meet so many amazing people,” Rapinoe said. “I feel incredibly grateful to have played as long as I have, to be as successful as we’ve been, and to have been a part of a generation of players who undoubtedly left the game better than they found it.
