That must have been gut-wrenching. You managed to avoid the travel cancellation fees, but were you financially impacted in any other ways?
“My Husband was also forced to withdraw from the marathon. He has Functional Neurological Disorder and I am his designated support runner, which meant he could no longer take part when I had to pull out. This means we have lost $590 in combined race entry fees. Fortunately, we were able to cancel our hotel reservations without any charges and we have received a voucher credit for our flights.”
Have you had an experience like this with any other race, or is this unique to New York?
“Since my stoma surgery in April 2021, I have completed the London Marathon 2022, Paris Marathon 2023, Great North Run 2021, 2022 and 2023, Chester Half Marathon 2021 and 2022 and a few 5k and 10k races. None of those races imposed any restrictions on the use of run vests and hydration bladders. I have recently been in communication with Chicago Marathon, as they do prohibit use of run vests and hydration bladders, however I have been informed by them that they have procedures in place to provide exemptions on an individual basis and been given details on how I would access this.
