GREENVILLE, S.C. — Destiny Harden says she’s not much of a social media person. Miami’s star forward doesn’t even have a Twitter account. But she is on Instagram. And when she opened the app this week, she couldn’t help but notice that her face was “everywhere.” Her phone was buzzing with text messages, too.
“When I go viral, it’s a lot of attention,” Harden said Thursday from Greenville, S.C., as the Hurricanes prepare for a Sweet 16 matchup with Villanova on Friday. “But it’s also a blessing to even be known, be appreciated. So I think it’s pretty cool.”
That crisp F-bomb she dropped on ESPN 2 after the excitement of her ninth-seeded Hurricanes stunning No. 1 seed Indiana on the Hoosiers’ home floor, thanks to her game-winner? She says that was an accident. Minutes earlier, in a tied game against Indiana, Harden had received the inbounds pass, took one dribble in the paint and went up-and-under against her defender to hit a shot from the middle of the lane for the 70-68 victory, sending Miami to its first Sweet 16 since the tournament expanded in 1994.
