McDermott surprising medal – More Sport – The Women’s Game

Date:

McDermott clinched a spot on the podium after a countback with Alyxandria Treasure of Canada missing her first attempt at 1.91m.

“I wanted a personal best and I rose to the occasion,” she said.

“Today was one of the most inspirational days I’ve ever had,” McDermott added.

McDermott attempted to further her personal best as the bar rose to 1.93m but failed each attempt.

It was only her second major international competition after competing at the 2017 World Championships in London where she was not able to clear the 1.80m benchmark.

“In my heart, I knew if I got a personal best I could be up there,” McDermott said.

“So I said to myself, ‘don’t stop until you’re up in the gold position’, but to land the bronze is like aiming for the moon and getting among the stars,” she said.
