Matt Rhule delivers heartfelt gesture to former Nebraska Cornhusker players before eventual Pinstripe Bowl win

The Nebraska football program had the proverbial monkey lifted off its back Saturday afternoon.

With a 20-15 triumph over Boston College, the Cornhuskers gave the Big Ten another bowl victory on top of earning their first postseason win since 2015.

However, it was not just any bowl win. It involved a special meeting with coach Matt Rhule, and the players he coached before this season turned out the way it did.

Rhule kept a promise to his teams, who came up one or two games short of becoming bowl-eligible. Although they may be Nebraska alumni, Nebraska football and the memories made along the way will never be forgotten.

Saturday was no exception. Not only did the Cornhuskers take a step toward long-term relevancy, but Rhule and his wife Julie invited 18 ex-Cornhusker players to watch the win unfold in a pay-it-forward gift to New York City, all expenses paid.

It was Nebraska’s 27th bowl victory, capping a rollercoaster season at 7-6.

“We made a promise to them. When we made a bowl game this year, we would bring them here,” Rhule told Nebraska ABC affiliate KETV.
