Marketa Vondrousova beats Ons Jabeur to win Wimbledon!

World No.42 Marketa Vondrousova, the first unseeded Wimbledon finalist in the Open Era, defeated Ons Jabeur 6-4 6-4 to clinch her Grand Slam first title at The Championships.

Just as it seemed that Jabeur was in charge of the first set, Vondrousova won five consecutive games after trailing 4-2. This remarkable effort allowed her to not only snatch the first set but also begin the second set with a break.

Playing in the Wimbledon final for the second year in a row, Jabeur stopped her opponent’s momentum by breaking back right at the start of the second set and progressing into a 3-1 lead. For the third time, Vondrousova erased a two-game deficit, leveling to 3-3. At 4-4, Vondrousova sneaked away with a break and confidently held serve to become a surprise champion at Wimbledon 2023.
