Maria Sharapova is tipping fellow compatriot Mirra Andreeva to have a breakthrough 2024 season and “a bright future” as the Russian tennis icon reveals she has been following the talented 17-year-old Russian and admires her game and attitude toward tennis.
Andreeva, who turned 17 on Monday, has been competing on the main-level for a year now and it is pretty safe to say that she is already an established WTA player.
Exactly a year ago, Andreeva – who was 15 when the 2023 Madrid Open started – made the round-of-16 as a wildcard in her WTA debut – and it came at the WTA 1000 level. Then as a qualifier, Andreeva made the French Open third round as a qualifier in her Grand Slam debut and she also reached the Wimbledon round-of-16 as a qualifier in her Wimbledon debut.
Now, Andreeva is widely considered one of the most talented and promising players in the game and widely tipped to do big things in the future.
