Maria Sharapova retired in February 2020 and gave birth to her first child, a son named Theodore, in July 2022. Even though many WTA moms are traveling the world and scoring big wins on tennis courts, the Russian five-time Grand Slam champion doesn’t see herself back in competition, although she remains ambitious about her overall business and career.
Having experienced motherhood first-hand, Sharapova gained an entirely new respect for parenthood and considers it one of her greatest accomplishments. Speaking on the Rennae Stubbs Tennis Podcast, the former WTA No.1 reaffirmed that she genuinely loves competing and touched on the always-hot topic of a possible comeback to tennis. When asked how she felt about all the mothers in the tennis world now, Sharapova responded:
I don’t know how they do it. I don’t see that in my future.
