Maria Sakkari, 28, expressed her deepest gratitude to everyone who has reached out to her following her emotional confession at the US Open. Sakkari, ranked at No 8 in the world, suffered a shock US Open first-round loss against Rebeka Masarova on Monday.
After the match, Sakkari revealed lately she has been “suffering on the court” and hinted she may take a break from tennis. On Wednesday, Sakkari took to Instagram to reveal how the tennis community and fans reacted to her revelation.
“I really have no words to describe the love and support I’ve received the last 48h. Sometimes you have to hit rock bottom to realise simple things in life. I just want to say thank you to each one of you for inspiring me to keep going and get back to enjoying myself.
Don’t forget to love yourself,” Sakkari wrote on Instagram.
