Sally Orange will be a familiar face to many runners who have taken on a marathon or two. Sally has now completed over 85 marathons – very often dressed as a piece of fruit (her name has certainly come in handy) – and she holds six Guinness World record titles.
She is the first and only female veteran to complete the World Marathon Challenge (seven marathons on seven continents in seven days) and she has received an MBE for her work raising awareness about mental health. Sally is now expanding her advocacy to include cancer awareness.
This year, Sally will be making her way to Nepal to take on yet another mammoth challenge: the Everest marathon, the world’s highest marathon. And she has an urgent new mission.
“I was recently diagnosed with breast cancer, and I’m using this challenge to raise awareness about the importance of early detection,” explains Sally.
“I usually run marathons wearing fruit costumes not just because my surname is Orange, but as a way to break down barriers and start conversations about mental health – my fruity outfits make people smile and open up about difficult topics.”
