Mandy Minella becomes a member of Luxembourg parliament

Tennis player and mom of two girls, Mandy Minella, is now building a career in politics. The 38-year-old from Esch-sur-Alzette has officially transitioned into a role as a parliament member in her native Luxembourg, showcasing her commitment to public service alongside her sporting achievements.

Luxembourg’s most famous WTA player was among 21 newly sworn-in members of parliament on Tuesday. She is part of the Democratic Party in the southern voting district.

“Thank you for your trust,” Minella wrote on Instagram as she shared photos from the swearing-in ceremony that took place at the Chamber of Deputies.

Minella achieved a career-high singles ranking of No.66 and secured two WTA titles in doubles, reaching a peak ranking of No.47 in that category. Her participation in singles tournaments concluded after Wimbledon 2022, while her last doubles appearance was noted in April of this year at an ITF $25,000 event held in Sharm el Sheikh, Egypt.

Mandy Minella and her husband, Tim Sommer, embraced parenthood for the first time in October 2017 with the birth of their daughter, Emma Lina. In December 2020, they joyfully welcomed their second daughter, Maya, expanding their family’s happiness.
