Manchester United deputy football director Andy O’Boyle set to leave

Manchester United are set for more changes to their senior football leadership structure, with deputy football director Andy O’Boyle set to leave Old Trafford after two years in the post.

O’Boyle joined United from his role as head of elite performance at the Premier League in May 2022, recruited to support then football director John Murtough in an effort to improve the men’s, women’s and academy operations.

Also a UEFA Pro Licence holder, he arrived with a strong reputation across the industry from spells working for the England Under-21 set-up, as well as Liverpool, Coventry City, Wrexham and an earlier stint at United.

Subsequent to Murtough’s departure in April, O’Boyle assumed greater responsibility under the Sir Jim Ratcliffe regime following his investment into the club — and assisted INEOS director of sport Sir Dave Brailsford as he established a new hierarchy.

At the time United were waiting for Omar Berrada, Jason Wilcox and Dan Ashworth to take up their roles as chief executive, technical director and sporting director respectively, while Christopher Vivell has since been installed as interim director of recruitment.
