Manchester United can be ‘force for years to come’ after taking WSL title to final day — Marc Skinner

Marc Skinner says if Manchester United can continue producing results like their stoppage time victory over Manchester City they will be a force in the game “for many years to come”.

United ensured the Women’s Super League title race went down to the final day of the season after Lucia Garcia’s 91st minute winner secured a 2-1 victory over Manchester City. The result marked the first time United have beaten their city rivals in the WSL.

Skinner’s side sit two points behind league leaders Chelsea with one round of fixtures remaining and can be crowned WSL champions for the first time if they beat Liverpool and Chelsea slip up against Reading.

“Tonight was special,” Skinner said. “If we can keep giving the fans that and European nights, we will be a force in this game for many years to come. We’ve achieved something wonderful, but we are not stopping here and at the end of the season I will smile and we will have a celebration.

“We just need to win our game and score as many as we can, if we can, put Liverpool under pressure and do everything we can do. If it happens, it happens, it’s not in our control, so it would be wasted energy. If the miracle happens, I promise I will get a drink and we can have one together.”
