Alex Greenwood and Lauren Hemp have both stepped up their recoveries from knee injuries with a return to on-pitch training, Manchester City Women head coach Gareth Taylor has said.
The two England internationals both suffered their respective knee injuries towards the end of 2024 and have not played since.
City captain Greenwood, 31, was stretchered off during the first half of City’s Champions League victory over St Polten in December and underwent surgery on her medial collateral ligament (MCL) just weeks after 24-year-old Hemp also had surgery on a knee injury.
“Hopefully by the next window that comes we could look to see them (Hemp and Greenwood) back,” Taylor said on Friday.
“They’re back on the grass at the moment, not with the team, but training more in isolation more. Because we run a small squad, we have numbers but they’re young players from the academy, so having two top class players back like that will really help us.”
