Manchester City have confirmed the appointment of Therese Sjogran as their new women’s director of football.
The Athletic reported earlier this month that Sjogran was due to arrive to replace Nils Nielsen who stepped down in June.
Sjogran, 47, joins from FC Rosengard in her native Sweden, where she previously played before becoming their sporting director in 2015. Rosengard won four Swedish titles during Sjogran’s time as sporting director, including this season where they are 11 points clear with two matches remaining. Sjogran will start her new role on December 1, following the conclusion of the 2024 Damallsvenskan campaign.
At City, the former midfielder will work with head coach Gareth Taylor, who signed a new three-year deal in March that keeps him at the club until 2027, while managing director Charlotte O’Neill leads the women’s team’s business operations.
A City statement added that Sjogran will “take charge of recruitment across the women’s and girls’ pathway at the Joie Stadium, as well as first-team coach and player development.”
