Man accused of harassing Caitlin Clark arrested and charged with stalking

A 55-year-old Texas man was arrested in Indianapolis over the weekend on charges that he sent numerous threats and sexually explicit messages via social media to WNBA star Caitlin Clark. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office announced Monday that Michael Lewis has been charged with (level 5 felony) stalking.

Documents obtained by The Athletic state that the messages were sent from an IP address on W. Market Street in Indianapolis — roughly half a mile from the Gainbridge Fieldhouse, where the Indiana Fever play — and that when police contacted Lewis on Jan. 8, he said it was “an imaginary relationship.”

Per online documentation, Magistrate Michelle Waymire issued a no-contact order and an order to stay away from the Gainbridge Fieldhouse and the Hinkle Fieldhouse on Monday.

“No matter how prominent a figure you are, this case shows that online harassment can quickly escalate to actual threats of physical violence,” Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears said in a statement. “It takes a lot of courage for women to come forward in these cases, which is why many don’t.
