Star USWNT forward Mallory Swanson was carted off the field at the end of the first half in Saturday’s 2-0 win in a friendly against Ireland after suffering a left knee injury. She was immediately taken to a local hospital after suffering the injury, according to a U.S. Soccer spokesperson. Here’s what you need to know:
- Swanson went down on the field after colliding with Aoife Mannion and immediately grabbed at her leg.
- She was then put on a stretcher and loaded into the cart, exiting to chants from fans at Q2 Stadium in Austin, Texas. The crowd was announced as a sell-out of 20,593.
- The USWNT entered halftime 1-0 following Swanson’s injury thanks to a goal by Emily Fox in the 37th minute. Lindsey Horan later put away a PK to lift the U.S. to a two-goal win.
- U.S. coach Vlatko Andonovski said after the game that the team didn’t yet know the extent of Swanson’s injury: “She’s getting checked out as we speak. I’m hoping for good news in the future.”
